The RDS Aga Khan Trophy

The RDS Dublin Horse Show takes place from the 14th - 18th of August for one of Ireland’s most cherished equestrian, family, and social events. This dazzling occasion offers a blend of world-class equestrian competitions, delicious food, lively bars, and stylish attire. Witness top-tier horses compete in over 168 national and international events, including the prestigious Nations Cup for the Aga Khan Trophy.
At Weir & Sons, we have The Trophy Room which houses some of the finest silversmithing in existence. Seventy-five of these silver trophies belong to the Royal Agricultural Society of Ireland, which has been awarding trophies for regional shows for several decades.
The first RDS run Horse Show took place in 1868, a year before Thomas Weir established himself in Dublin. All of the RDS trophies are sterling silver or silver-plated except for the famous Aga Khan trophy which is gold-plated.
At the conclusion of each Horse Show, Weir's brings all their silverware up to its Polishing Room where the new winners' names are engraved by hand. They are then collected by the winners who keep them until shortly before the next show when they are brought back to Weir's for polishing and to remove any brusies or blemishess. Some of the trophies are now over 150 years old.
